Kawah Gunung Kerinci

Gunung Kerinci atau yang juga dieja “Kerintji” dan dikenal sebagai Gunung Gadang, Berapi Kurinci, Korinci, atau Puncak Indrapura adalah gunung tertinggi dan salah satu yang teraktif di Sumatra. Dengan ketinggian 3805 meter dari permukaan laut, gunung Kerinci juga merupakan puncak tertinggi di Indonesia selain rangkaian pegunungan di Papua.

Puncak Kerinci terletak pada koordinat 1°41′48″ LS101°15′56″ BT dan pertama kali didaki oleh von Hasselt bersama Veth pada tahun 1877, daerahnya berupa kawasan tak bervegetasi yang mengelilingi kawah dalam selebar 600 meter.

Gunung ini sudah seringkali mengalami erupsi meski tidak pernah tercatat adanya letusan yang sangat menghancurkan. Berikut sejarah letusan dari Gunung Kerinci:

Hasil erupsi Gunung Kerinci banyak menghasilkan batuan yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk keperluan bangunan, selain itu dengan dipeliharanya hutan lindung Gunung Kerinci, merupakan tempat tersimpannya cadangan air tanah untuk irigasi, air minum, serta beberapa mata air panas sebagai sumber mineral untuk kesehatan.
